Dr. Lela A. Llorens Award of Excellence for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

This award was established in 2023 to honor Dr. Lela A. Llorens, an occupational therapy pioneer known throughout the profession. The purpose is to honor a member of AOTA who has utilized Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Justice, Accessibility, and Belonging (DEIJAB) principles to address the needs of marginalized, under-resourced, and/or underrepresented persons, groups, and populations.

2024 Award Nominations Window for All Other Awards: CLOSED

All nominations must be submitted via AOTA’s online awards platform. Prior to nominating an individual for an award, it is strongly recommended that you read the Awards FAQs.

Please Note: You will need to have access to an individual's CV or résumé and a professional photo to facilitate the nomination entry process. You do not need to finish the nomination in one session, as the online system will save your work.  Please do not hit the "Submit" button until you have fully completed all necessary sections.


General Information & Procedures

  • Nominees for all awards shall be considered each year, but the awards will be conferred only when national recognition is merited. Individuals who are nominated and not selected may be nominated again at a later date.
  • All nominees will be evaluated for their contributions and level of impact on the profession of occupational therapy.
  • Any individual or organization who is an AOTA member is eligible to submit nominations. Self-nominations are not permitted.
  • All occupational therapists, occupational therapy assistants, and occupational therapy students who are nominated for an award must be members in good standing of the Association at the time of the nomination and presentation of the award.
  • Organizations and individuals who are not occupational therapy practitioners may only be nominated for the Health Advocate Award or Award for Excellence in the Advancement of Occupational Therapy.
  • Group nominations are permissible for the Outstanding Student Advocate Award, Award for Excellence in the Advancement of Occupational Therapy, and Interprofessional Collaboration Award.
  • All awards, except the Eleanor Clarke Slagle Lectureship Award and International Service Award, will be presented during AOTA INSPIRE 2024 Award Ceremony in Orlando on Saturday, March 23.
